Cadillac Plans String Of New Models After XTS

As bright futures go, Cadillac isn’t a bad place to be right now. From a scant three models today — SRX crossover; CTS compact sedan and Escalade SUV — it’s planning a steady cadence of new introductions sure to broaden its share of the luxury market.

The first of the new breed to show up in American showrooms will be the new XTS midsize-to-large sedan this summer. It’s the first Caddy to get the brand’s signature technology product, the CUE infotainment system. It’s the first, as far as we can tell, with a system that can recognize hand gestures and easily flip images and functions between the navigation screen on the center stack and the instrument panel right in front of the driver.

Next will come the small, entry-level luxury ATS; a refreshed CTS, Cadillac’s hit small sedan; then the XLS extended-range electric sedan and after that, a new Escalade SUV, according to Cadillac’s marketing leader, Don Butler. For the moment, he won’t talk about timing. But the lineup should assure a strong presence in the tough luxury market for one of its best-known brands.

Expect a few surprises: Cadillac is still being coy about whether it will introduce a big, American luxury barge larger than the XTS. It’s been proudly showing its concept of one, the stunning Ciel, that first showed up last summer at Pebble Beach and had hit every auto show, including China’s, since.

With the XTS arriving in our showroom in less than three weeks, be one of the first to come and experience this new Cadillac model of luxury!

Buick Proves the Enclave is Sexy

Buick wants you to know that the 2012 Enclave is smart and sexy and has enlisted the aid of Marissa Miller to help get the point across. The redesigned crossover seems more distracting than anything when Miller’s in the picture, but we’ll assume that’s in a good way. And since we don’t expect she comes with the car, buyers should be able to focus on the smart and sexy part.  The Sports Illustrated staple and lingerie model might just be the first person ever to wear a swimsuit in a Buick ad. We could say more about it, but that would delay you from watching Ms. Miller and the Enclave in action.  Click here to see the video.

ABOUT THE BUICK ENCLAVE

The 2012 Buick Enclave combines the smooth ride and responsive handling of a car, with the cargo capability and high seating position of a sport utility vehicle.

The Enclave is available in either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) and features a contemporary design that incorporates trademark styling cues associated with Buicks of the past. The interior features two front bucket seats and can accommodate either seven or eight passengers depending on the seating configuration selected. A direct injection 3.6-liter V6 engine is mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Enclave offers a luxurious interior with an extensive list of features and amenities, including standard Bluetooth handsfree connectivity and tri-zone automatic climate control. Available equipment includes a remote engine starter, a ten speaker Bose sound system, a rear DVD entertainment system, and vehicle navigation with a rear backup camera.

The 2012 Buick Enclave ranks 1 out of 23 Affordable Midsize SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of  60 published reviews and test drives of the Buick Enclave, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The 2012 Buick Enclave is a comfortable, luxurious and capable family hauler. Just don’t expect particularly nimble handling or brisk acceleration.

Reviewers say the 2012 Buick Enclave packs a surprising number of standard features and offers a quiet, refined interior that’s rare for an affordable midsize SUV. They even compare its upscale interior and composed ride with the Lexus RX 350. That’s high praise for a vehicle that isn’t considered a luxury SUV.

Though reviewers are impressed with the Enclave’s interior accommodations, they aren’t excited about what’s under the hood. They say this SUV’s engine is up to the task of hauling up to eight people and their stuff, and has smooth handling and a comfortable ride. But shoppers looking for some fun driving dynamics in their family vehicle should look elsewhere because the Enclave is tuned more for relaxation than excitement.

Most automotive journalists conclude that the 2012 Buick Enclave is a top choice in a hotly competitive segment. In fact, the Enclave offers such a good combination of comfort, interior features and value that we named it the 2012 Best Three Row Midsize SUV for Families. Overall, if you want to chauffer your family and a few occasional third-row passengers in comfort and style, reviewers say the 2012 Buick Enclave should be at the top of your shopping list.

The 2012 Cadillac XTS – A Car Worth Waiting For

With the XTS, GM’s luxury-car division has made the difficult decision to replace the front-drive DTS and rear/all-wheel-drive STS sedans with a single car that it hopes doesn’t drive away current buyers of  both. Last year, U.S. buyers (many of them probably bearing coupons) scooped up about 23,000 of these models, or nearly 40 percent of Cadillac’s car sales.

The DTS, especially, looks out of whack with Cadillac’s rumored future product plan, which is performance oriented. One of Cadillac’s goals is to move the CTS up in size and prestige to become a true rival to the BMW 5-series and the Mercedes E-class. Also, the company is to bring in a smaller car, the ATS, which will line up against the C-class and the 3-series. But Cadillac has a lot of loyal DTS buyers, people who gladly pay almost $50,000 for an old-fashioned American luxury cruiser. As one insider tells us, “Why walk away from such a profitable niche in the marketplace?”

The XTS, then, is not a rear-drive sporty sedan aimed at the Germans but, instead, will be a comfortable and luxurious barge that fits the needs of a particular group of American and Chinese buyers.

The XTS Platinum concept shown in January at the Detroit auto show hints at what the vehicle will look like. It is based on GM’s Epsilon architecture that underpins cars as diverse as the Chevy Malibu and the Buick LaCrosse, although it is stretched and will be offered only  with all-wheel drive. The car likely will be powered by a couple of versions of GM’s direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6: We suspect the base model will have a naturally aspirated unit making about 300 horsepower. The more upscale model will have a V-6 mated to a plug-in hybrid system, for a combined output of 350 horses. To ensure a suitably cushy ride with good body control, the car will use electronically controlled magnetorheological shock absorbers.

The actual XTS is apparently slightly narrower than the concept car pictured here and has an even longer rear overhang. Still, it’s bound to be a dramatic-looking machine. The concept car’s interior is knockout gorgeous, but we’re told that the production version won’t be quite as stellar. It will, however, feature infotainment and connectivity features by the boatload, accessible to both front and rear-seat passengers.

The XTS isn’t a flagship for Cadillac. Instead, insiders describe it as a vehicle for an aging boomer population that has a different set of requirements than the Audi/BMW/Mercedes crowd. Cadillac would like to do a range-topping car to take on the Mercedes S-class, but the company doesn’t have the money to do it yet.

The all new XTS will be arriving in the showroom in late June.  To reserve yours today or learn more, visit www.coulter-tempe.com or call 480-940-6000

GMC Denali Lineup Growing in Numbers and Popularity

The GMC Family includes the Terrain, Acadia, Yukon and Sierra

The GMC Family includes the Terrain, Acadia, Yukon and Sierra

What began as an upscale trim level on the 1999 GMC Yukon full-size SUV has grown in 13 years to become a sub-brand of eight individual models today, representing the best of GMC performance, technology and style in their respective segments.

To date, more than a half-million Denali vehicles have been produced at a pace that is constantly increasing. While the GMC brand grew 19 percent in total sales from 2010 to 2011, Denali sales increased by 79 percent.

“Denali is the ultimate expression of Professional Grade,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of GMC Marketing. “These are the most-capable, most-advanced and most-luxurious vehicles GMC offers.”

The Denali name itself reflects that mission statement. Derived from the native name for Mount McKinley in Alaska – North America’s highest peak – it can be translated to mean “the high one.”

More than half of all GMC Yukons sold in 2011 were Denalis, while nearly a quarter of all Sierra HDs and 28 percent of Acadias last year wore the badge. Later this year, the new 2013 Terrain Denali joins the growing model range.

Since its inception, the Denali trim has comprised a core set of design characteristics. On the exterior, every vehicle features chrome wheels, chrome elements in the front grille and body-color moldings. The Denali script is displayed prominently on the outside of each front door.

Inside, Denalis use premium materials such as soft leather and mahogany wood accents. These top-trim vehicles have introduced features such as upgraded audio systems and ventilated front seats to the GMC brand.

Coulter Motor Company Supports The Folds of Honor Foundation

America’s service men and women knowingly risk their lives by choosing to protect and serve their country. Our country. And while they face unknown horrors in the fields of battle, their families are confronted with an equally devastating reality at home when a loved one in uniform is killed or wounded.

Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, became painfully aware of this crushing truth while returning home from his second tour of duty in Iraq. As his flight touched down, the pilot announced they carried the remains of Corporal Brock Bucklin on board and asked–out of respect for his heroism and family–all passengers to remain seated while his casket deboarded.

Major Rooney watched the flag-covered casket exit the plane. He watched Corporal Bucklin’s twin brother, who had had accompanied his fallen brother home from Iraq, walk somberly among the procession to meet his family. Among them was the deceased Corporal’s young son, Jacob. Major Rooney ached as he thought of his own beloved wife and little girls at home. The experience of seeing the other side of war through the eyes of Jacob, was instantly life-altering for Rooney.

A few moments later, Rooney returned his awareness to the cabin of the plane. Sadly, more than half of the passengers on the flight had disregarded the pilot’s request and had deboarded. Torn by this irreverent display in the light of the agony he saw in the eyes of loved ones left behind, Major Rooney decided he had to act. He needed to do something…first, to pay tribute to American soldiers and to their families; and secondly, to live as a reminder among civilians that it is our duty to appreciate and honor the ultimate sacrifices of our heroic service members who preserve the freedoms each of us so easily take for granted.

Knowing he couldn’t change the fate of fallen soldier Corporate Bucklin, Major Rooney made a decision to spend his life changing the future of America’s grieving spouses and children. In 2007, he formed the Folds of Honor Foundation…a 501C-3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities otherwise unavailable to this most deserving group of heroic American citizens.  The Folds of Honor Foundation provides post-secondary scholarships to spouses and children of service members disabled or killed while serving our great country.

Coulter Motor Company is proud to support this wonderful organization and we invite you to join in our efforts at The Folds of Honor Golf Tournament on April 22nd at The Wigwam Resort, as we raise funds for this courageous and patriotic philanthropy.  Spots are filling up fast, so reserve yours today!  To find out more information, visit  www.foldsofhonorgolfaz.org or contact Denny Yates at 602-370-6550 orRod Martin at 602-206-0059.

Buick Verano Makes All the Right Moves

A successful Valentine’s Day is more than red roses, milk chocolate and a romantic dinner. The 2012 Buick Verano luxury sedan can be the perfect way to start the night off right.

Nerves can be the enemy of good impressions, so the Verano is packed with features to put both the driver and passenger at ease. That starts with the seats, which were subjected to more than 1,000 hours of comfort development.

Even if things do get tense on your Verano date, the seats are designed to prevent uncomfortable pressure points that sometimes develop during long drives. Equal attention was paid to ergonomics, resulting in headrests shaped to comfortably accommodate ponytails. So there’s no vehicular excuse to avoid that first kiss.

Buick’s QuietTuning technology creates an intimate atmosphere within Verano’s four doors where more than a dozen different noise-reducing and noise-cancelling technologies are at work. Whispering sweet nothings like “You can order an expensive glass of wine tonight because I get 32 highway mpg” can be easily heard, though maybe not recommended.

If talk is cheap, Verano offers numerous entertainment options with IntelliLink connectivity. Through the standard seven-inch color touchscreen, drivers can control SiriusXM radio, an iPod, or popular smartphone-connected Internet radio apps like Pandora.

Nicole Biggins, soon-to-be-married co-host on SiriusXM Hits1, has a perfect date playlist. “Romantic music is about classics mixed with the unexpected,” Nicole says. “Elvis with the Righteous Brothers., Marvin Gaye is a must, and toss in the Heart power ballad for the right romantic mood when driving with your guy.” SiriusXM’s romantic music channels include SiriusXM Love, Heart and Soul, Siriusly Sinatra and Watercolors.

Pandora allows listeners to create personalized radio stations based on a single song, artist, or genre like “Valentine’s,” which features a dozen custom stations created specifically for Valentine’s Day. If your date doesn’t seem impressed, simply hit the “thumbs-down” button on the screen and the station will play the next song. Last year, Pandora listeners logged more than 170,000 hours of love music on February 14.

Regardless of the source, music can be played through an optional seven-channel, nine-speaker Bose audio system. It is uniquely tailored to Verano’s specific dimensions and quiet-tuned cabin with crystal-like clarity even at low volumes.

Buick IntelliLink offers other features useful on Valentine’s Day, like the ability to display photos (those of past lovers aren’t recommended) from a USB drive or play a romantic movie in the parking lot while waiting for a table. That’s only if the driver hasn’t used the system’s Bluetooth to call ahead.

If a restaurant doesn’t offer valet service, returning to a cold car isn’t a concern. The Buick Verano comes standard with remote start and even automatically activate the available heated seats at temperatures under 45 degrees. A heated steering wheel can warm the hands as amorous feelings warm the heart in your Verano Valentine.

2012 Buick LaCrosse Named Best Overall Value

Lease the 2012 Buick Lacrosse now for just $289/mo

The 2012 Buick LaCrosse was recently named the Best Overall Value in the Premium Passenger Car class by IntelliChoice.
The IntelliChoice Best Overall Value of the Year awards identify the vehicles with the lowest total cost to own and operate over the first five years of ownership. Selected from nearly 1,800 domestic and import 2012 model-year vehicles, the Best Overall Value of the Year (BOVY) awards recognize the best car values by class.
IntelliChoice’s BOVY awards represent the oldest and most recognized auto-motive data analysis focused solely on identifying vehicles that will cost significantly less to own than over vehicles in their respective class.  The 2012 Buick Lacrosse features first class seating with individual dual mounted DVD screens and more legroom than the Lexus ES350, Acura TL and Infiniti G Sedan models. For 2012, the Buick LaCrosse is available in ten trims, and has rebadged the line-up. This year’s LaCrosse is now available with a lighter weight, more powerful and capable V6 engine. Also new on LaCrosse, is eAssist technology, which uses a lithium-ion battery and a compact electric motor to boost the efficiency of the standard 2.4L four-cylinder engine. Regenerative braking recharges the battery. With eAssist, as well as some underbody aerodynamic modifications, the new powertrain sees an estimated 25% increase in fuel economy, over the 2011 four-cylinder/six-speed automatic models. An Eco gauge continuously displays data based on driving dynamics, which then allows the driver to monitor performance and make adjustments in behavior to achieve maximum efficiency. The V6 engine is offered as a no charge option in lieu of the four-cylinder engine if desired.

Experience Buick Luxury in the 2012 Buick Lacrosse from Coulter Motor Company.  Take a test drive today and we assure you nothing less than perfection.

2012 GMC Terrain Named #2 in SUV’s by US News

The 2012 GMC Terrain

US News has just ranked the 2012 GMC Terrain 2 out of 20 Affordable Compact SUVs. This ranking is based on their analysis of 29 published reviews and test drives of the GMC Terrain, and their analysis of reliability and safety data.

The 2012 GMC Terrain has a high base price, but buyers get a stand-out exterior, a standard rearview camera and plenty of passenger space.

Unlike most compact SUVs, which have round, simple exteriors and a bland list of standard interior features, the 2012 GMC Terrain has rugged, truck-like styling that suggests parents are headed off-road rather than to the grocery store, and comes packed with standard features like Bluetooth and a rearview camera. On top of that, the GMC Terrain has a lot of passenger space, and a sliding second row that increases leg or cargo room.

The Terrain comes with a lot of standard features and is perfect for moms and dads who want something other than a typical family SUV, reviewers say, and add that the 2012 GMC Terrain deserves a slot at the top of your shopping list because overall, it’s a great family vehicle.

The 2012 GMC Terrain is available in four trim levels: SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1 and SLT-2. Because Terrain hasn’t changed much, this review uses test drives from earlier models.

  • “GMC’s smallest SUV deserves consideration for passenger accommodations and overall refinement. Compared with the similar Chevrolet Equinox, Terrain offers unique styling, additional standard equipment, and available cloth seating that is notably upmarket of its sibling.” — Consumer Guide
  • “In the Terrain, GMC has created a rugged looking compact, deceiving in size and with impressively good fuel economy. Loaded with features and priced to compete with segment leader such as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, the Terrain is an appealing choice for those who like their trucks to look like trucks, even when they’re not really trucks.” — Kelley Blue Book
  • “If the handsome and cohesive design is any indicator, this could be GMC’s best small SUV ever.” — Car and Driver

Terrain Performance – 8.0 (Very Good)

The 2012 GMC Terrain has car-like performance and excellent fuel economy with its base four cylinder engine

Terrain Exterior – 7.5 (Good)

Parents who are avoiding the Honda CR-V’s “mom car” reputation might like the 2012 GMC Terrain’s rugged, boxy exterior that houses a family-friendly interior.

Terrain Interior – 8.9 (Very Good)

The 2012 GMC Terrain doesn’t have as much cargo space as the Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V, but in exchange for less space, the Terrain has more standard features.

Terrain Safety – 9.4 (Excellent)

The 2012 GMC Terrain receives a high overall score from the federal government and is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick.

Terrain Reliability

The Terrain has a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that is typical of affordable SUVs.

Our GMC Terrain inventory is extensive, so come check out one today at Coulter Tempe.

The New XTS is Revealed

The Cadillac XTS will begin production this spring

Cadillac unveiled the 2013 XTS, the newest addition to the Cadillac luxury sedan lineup. It arrives in showrooms in the spring of 2012 as the most technologically advanced production car in the brand’s history.

Larger than the CTS, the new XTS delivers the space, elegance and dramatic presence that are Cadillac signatures, but with entirely new and technically advanced methods tuned for a new generation of luxury customers. It also marks the debut of CUE, a comprehensive in-vehicle experience that merges intuitive design with auto industry-first controls and commands for information and media data.

In addition to the CUE interface and connectivity, many other advanced technologies are integral to the new XTS. It will be the only luxury sedan with standard Magnetic Ride Control – the world’s fastest-reacting suspension. Advanced technologies that enhance vision are available as well.

Positioned directly above the centerpiece CTS family in Cadillac’s revamped lineup, the new XTS features a 3.6L direct injection engine and advanced all-wheel drive system, marking a shift to more-efficient performance in a spacious luxury sedan.

“The Cadillac XTS represents a new formula for luxury, driven by advanced technology,” said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac Marketing. “XTS showcases the evolution of our Art & Science philosophy, merging the best technical ideas with the continued refinement of Cadillac design.”

Cadillac CUE is the highly customizable user interface that exemplifies XTS’ blend of advanced technology and artistic design. The heart of CUE, which stands for Cadillac User Experience, is the standard eight-inch (203 mm) screen in the “center stack,” the faceplate below the screen and the steering wheel controls. CUE features several industry firsts, including capacitive-touch control with proximity sensing, gesture recognition and natural voice recognition.

Available exclusively on the XTS is the 12.3-inch (312 mm) reconfigurable cluster. It features vibrant graphic displays showcased among four driver-selectable themes, ranging from minimal to extensive information. And while it is the prominent element in the XTS’ technological character, CUE is part of a more comprehensive and layered approach to the car’s design, capabilities and performance

“The more you look, the more layers you see in XTS,” said Butler. “They aren’t always apparent to the eye, but they build on one another in important ways to reinforce the car’s strength of design, comfort and driving experience.”

Highlights include:

  • Advanced Haldex all-wheel-drive system with electronically controlled limited-slip differential
  • Magnetic Ride Control, rear air suspension, HiPer Strut front suspension and Brembo brakes – all standard
  • Standard 19-inch wheels and available 20-inch wheels
  • Direct-injected 3.6L V-6 with lightweight features, including integrated cylinder heads/exhaust manifolds
  • Capless fuel tank filler for easier, cleaner refueling
  • Folding rear-seat headrests that enhance rear visibility
  • Safety Alert Seat that vibrates to alert the driver
  • Intervening braking system that lessens or avoids potential collisions

Short- and long-range radar systems that support:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Front and Rear Automatic Brakes
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The XTS is also the most-spacious Cadillac sedan, tailored to provide roominess in a more efficiently sized package. It offers more interior space than midsize luxury cars and comparable to full-size sedans, particularly in the rear seat area, where it has 40 inches (1,016 mm) of rear legroom. That’s about four more inches than the BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class and about two more inches than the Audi A6 – and comparable to larger sedans.

And when it comes to trunk space, the XTS is in a league of its own, with 18 cubic feet (509 L), exceeding both midsize and full-size competitors – more than Audi A6 and A8L, BMW 5 and 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz E- and S-Class. For XTS customers, the cargo advantage means room for five or more suitcases.

Technology reinforces multidimensional design philosophy

XTS’ hardware and spatial dimensions are the foundational layers that support a new level of surface detail. Multidimensional exterior and interior elements, including the grille, headlamps and new use of accent lighting, coalesce to give the XTS a presence and attention to detail unlike any Cadillac that has come before it.

“The XTS’ technology is woven into its design in ways that affirm the driving experience is of primary importance to a new generation of luxury customers,” said Clay Dean, design director and Cadillac brand champion. “This is the new expression of luxury at Cadillac and it shows in the multilayered details, authentic materials and unprecedented connectivity.”

CUE, for example, represents the pinnacle of technology, but it is being showcased using a subtle and sophisticated interior appearance that blends with other features to create a soothing and inviting feel. It offers more capability and driver-selectable choices than ever before from Cadillac, but the center stack has only seven buttons – four of them for the radio. That’s less than half the controls found on the center stack of the typical car.

“Technology helps the XTS deliver more with less,” said Dean. “Choreographed interior lighting and other unique features tailored to individual driver preferences complement CUE to create an exceptionally refined and advanced ambience.”

The XTS’ surface details also convey a more-nuanced design philosophy, with elements that support the long, sleek proportion that is a welcome return to Cadillac. They bring forward more beauty and elegance with refined, graceful forms and surfaces working harmoniously with established Cadillac linear forms. It is a car that conveys the next step in Cadillac form and surface vocabulary.

“It is a bold, elegant design and also very efficient in the ways it encompasses passengers and cargo,” said Dean. “It’s a new proportion for Cadillac and a new era in luxury.”

The XTS Platinum is the fullest expression of Cadillac’s multidimensional philosophy, with features that include a chrome/satin-chrome grille finish, polished 20-inch aluminum wheels with chrome inserts, a fully wrapped leather interior with Alcantara headliner and more.

Advanced safety features based on ‘control and alert’ strategy

The XTS’ technology fundamentally supports a suite of advanced safety features, based on a “control and alert” strategy that extends the vision around the vehicle. It helps drivers identify potential crash situations and even intervenes when a crash threat appears more imminent, employing layers of visual, audible and tactile (vibration) alerts, depending on the alert feature.

The alerts are designed to identify obstacles with sufficient warning to give the driver time to react and make changes – including the Safety Alert Seat feature, which vibrates either the left or right side of the driver’s seat cushion, depending on the location of the impending concern. The intervening features, including Automatic Collision Preparation, take over if the threat appears more immediate or the driver does not react to previous alerts.

Two levels of control-and-alert protection are offered in the XTS’ Enhanced Safety Strategy (ESS) packages.

ESS I includes:

  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Safety Alert Seat
  • Side Blind Zone Alert
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Reflected LED display.

ESS II includes all ESS I content plus:

  • Head-up display (in color)
  • Front and Rear Automatic Brake
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Automatic Collision Preparation

XTS also features OnStar as standard. OnStar service also includes myCadillac and OnStar myLink mobile apps, which offer vehicle information and OnStar services via the customer’s smartphone.

AWD and Magnetic Ride Control support new driving experience

A layered approach to the driving experience relies on new and established technologies – all rooted in a stiff structure. The body is infused with strategically placed ultra-high-strength steel for strength and crash protection and serves as the foundation for the advanced-chassis system.

A smart Haldex all-wheel-drive system – with an electronic limited-slip differential that splits torque between the rear wheels – complements an advanced HiPer Strut front suspension and standard Magnetic Ride Control real-time damping to give the XTS sure-footed, confident and comfortable ride and handling traits. A linked H-arm design with “air springs” comprises the rear suspension.

HiPer Strut is based on the MacPherson strut front suspension design and features dual-path top mountings that separate the transfer of spring and damper loads to the body structure. It improves ride-and-handling characteristics in four significant ways:

  • Provides more linear and communicative steering through improved camber control
  • Improves impact isolation on bumps and rough surfaces
  • Reduces torque steer
  • Improves vehicle sensitivity to tire irregularities and wheel imbalance.

Magnetic Ride Control delivers precise body motion control – “reading” the road every millisecond and changing damping in just five milliseconds. It replaces conventional mechanical-valve shocks with electronically controlled shocks filled with a magneto-rheological fluid containing minute iron particles. Under the presence of magnetic charge, the iron particles align to provide damping resistance almost instantly.

StabiliTrak electronic stability control is standard on all models, along with variable-effort steering and Brembo four-wheel disc brakes with four-channel antilock brakes – all features that add important layers of control to the driving experience. Like Magnetic Ride Control, XTS borrows the Brembo braking technology from Cadillac’s V-Series of high performance models.

Horsepower for the XTS comes from an advanced 3.6L V-6 that’s known by its “LFX” engine code. It is rated at an estimated 300 horsepower (224 kW). Lightweight features help reduce overall weight for greater efficiency and a more favorable front-to-rear weight balance. Examples include a composite intake manifold saves approximately 5.5 pounds (2.5 kg) over the weight of a comparable aluminum intake and an integrated cylinder head/exhaust manifold design that saves approximately 13 pounds (6 kg) per engine.

The LFX engine is matched with the Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission with tap-shift control.

The XTS will begin production in Oshawa, Ontario in spring 2012.
